Anti-Dis-Quiz

  • Digital anti-discrimination learning game for youth basketball teams
  • Interactive team quiz combining knowledge, discussion and competition
  • Developed for the German Basketball Federation (DBB)

Together with the German Basketball Federation (DBB) and game and learning designer Markus Utomo, we transformed an analogue anti-discrimination quiz into a digital team experience that encourages young basketball players to recognize discrimination, challenge stereotypes and explore ways to take action.

The Challenge

How can a digital game help young basketball players understand discrimination beyond simply learning definitions?

The original AntiDis-Quiz brought together a variety of activities, from matching tasks and estimation questions to discussions and real-life scenarios. The challenge was to translate these different formats into a cohesive digital experience that could be easily facilitated in a group setting while keeping all participants engaged.

Our Approach

We developed a browser-based quiz experience designed for shared play in youth basketball teams.

A central game screen presents questions, tasks and results to the entire group, while a facilitator guides the session. Different game mechanics bring variety to the experience, combining knowledge-based challenges with discussion and practical scenarios.

The quiz explores discrimination in sports and everyday life, covering topics such as racism, sexism, queerphobia, ableism and social inequality. Through matching tasks, estimation questions, open discussions and real-life scenarios, players learn to recognize discriminatory behavior, understand its consequences and reflect on privileges and barriers to participation.

The final rounds shift the focus from knowledge to action, encouraging players to consider how they can respond to discrimination and support their teammates.

The Result

The result is a digital learning game that makes anti-discrimination education accessible and engaging for youth basketball teams.

By combining playful competition with reflection and discussion, the AntiDis-Quiz creates opportunities for young players to explore discrimination in sports and everyday life, understand its consequences and develop ways to stand up for one another.
